NK Opening Celebration

Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center (NK) presents its Opening Celebration, on Saturday, August 29th marking the finale of the 2015 Spring/Summer public art initiatives; Fallow Grounds for Sculpture and Neu City. The projects represent NK’s long term commitment and mission to promote innovative projects that advocate for positive community-infrastructures to generate opportunities for cultural and social exchange.

The Opening Celebration is a nine and a half hour public event in East Deutschtown and inside the NK Gallery. The event commences at 12:00 noon and continues through to 10:00 pm with a range of activities taking place in local vacant lots and the Food City Community garden. Activities for the day will include a gallery exhibition, walking-tour, two artist performances and a selection of musical entertainment. Refreshments and food trucks will also be available to the public. This event is free and open to the public.

Art Walking Tour: 12:00 – 2:00 pm
Tour the Fallow Grounds and Neu City Projects with Colonel Ealgerburger’s High Stepping Good Time Band. Meet at Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center front steps

Connected Movement Performance: 2:00 – 3:00 pm
Artist Hannah Thompson’s wearable art performance, Connected Movement in the Food City community garden on Tripoli St.

YogaNuvo under the Sky and on the Green 3:00-4:00
with Myrna Patterson- FREE

Art Olympics: 4:00 – 7:00 pm
Participate in all the action at artist Tom Sarver’s event Art Olympics, located on 824-826 Spring Garden Ave., Pittsburgh, PA, 15212. (The grass field between Concord & Spring Garden Ave.)

Exhibition Opening: 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Opening reception of the exhibition, In the Making which shows the process of creating the project in Fallow Grounds and Neu City. Music performance by visiting New Zealand artist Alexandra Hanna Racquel. Light refreshments provided.

Live Projection:
8:00 – 11:00 pm- NK Chapel
Music performance inside NK's former chapel space, by audio visual artist Nathan Lorenzo aka VJ/DJ Nate Cake.

Getting here:
Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center is located on the corner of Tripoli Street and Madison Avenue and can be accessed by car, bus or bike. We’re the historic church on corner, can’t miss it. Once you arrive, enter through the double doors on the Madison Avenue side. (Address: 1000 Madison Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15212.)

Plenty of parking near Neu Kirche. Find a spot on the street and a larger parking lot on Spring Garden Avenue and Madison Avenue (behind the UPMC building).
