W.A.G.E. - PGH Arts Organization Workshop

  • Neu Kirche Contemporary Art 1000 Madison Avenue Pittsburgh, PA, 15212 United States

Workshop(Administrators, directors, curators)
Thursday August 8th, 2PM

Neu Kirche will be hosting Lise Soskolne, Core Organizer of W.A.G.E. (Working Artists and the Greater Economy) on a visit to Pittsburgh in early September. Lise will make a public presentation at 7PM the evening of Wednesday September 7th for artists, arts administrators and anyone else interested and lead a workshop on Thursday September 8th specifically designed to engage administrators, directors, curators, and all those who work in and for Pittsburgh arts organizations in an open discussion about equity and institutional practices. Lise will present the practical application of W.A.G.E. Certification from an organizational perspective, with a focus on the challenges—and necessity—of implementing a system of compensation that remains essentially symbolic of economic value.

Lise will also be available during the rest of her visit for a limited number of one-on-one consultations for those that cannot make Thursday's workshop and are interested in what getting certified might mean in practice becoming certified.

W.A.G.E. is a New York-based activist organization focused on regulating the payment of artist fees by nonprofit art institutions and establishing a sustainable labor relation between artists and the institutions that contract them. So far there are 27 W.A.G.E. Certified organizations in cities across the U.S. but none in Pittsburgh -- we’re hoping her presence here will change that.
